Birthday Giveaway!

Happy Birthday to me! Happy giveaway to you! I like to share the gift giving on my birthday and I am excited to show you what I have put together for you.

I made this cute little bag out of Hello Betty fabric. I used Rachel's awesome tutorial.



When I was in Cannon Beach, Oregon I went antique shopping with my sister and picked up this sweet vintage apron. My daughter is my very willing model.

I am also including one of my hand knit washcloths with some handmade soap (that I didn't make), some yummy Sees suckers in my favorite flavor vanilla, and a charm pack. I picked up the charm pack when I shop hopped this summer with my giveaway in mind. I made this tablerunner out of a charm pack just like it.

My Birthday Quilt

I am making myself a quilt for my birthday. (my kids think that's hilarious) I just have to put borders on before I quilt it. I used a charm pack of Berry Delicious and some red with white polka dots for the corner stones. I love how it is turning out.

I'm back and ready to sew

I'm back from the beach and we keep finding sand in everything. I guess that goes with the territory. We had such a fabulous time. The weather was great and that isn't always the case at an Oregon beach, so we got lucky. We rented a beach house with my sister and her family for the week. The cousins were excited to play and bunk together all week. We flew kites, rode bikes, visited a lighthouse, went geocaching, toured the Tillamook cheese factory, went bowling, played games, took naps, roasted hot dogs and smores at a fire on the beach, and most of all played in the sand (at least the kids did). I did this a lot...


A few days before we left on our trip my husband handed me an envelope at dinner (he had an identical one in his hand too). He made a little speech (as I opened it) about how he had been recognized at his job for working hard and putting in lots of hours. About how I deserved the recognition just as much because I am understanding that sometimes he has to put in extra hours and that he appreciates me being supportive. Also that he appreciates me staying home with the kids and taking care of things on the home front. Well that little speech alone was wonderful but to find a $100 gift card in that envelope was icing on the cake. His company had given him two gift cards, you know the ones that look like a credit card and you can spend them just about anywhere. Well his timing couldn't have been better because we were planning on stopping in Portland so that I could go to the Fabric Depot. Suddenly I had a lot more money to spend there, woohoo! My family dropped me off and they went geocaching while I shopped. Almost three hours later I called them to tell them I was done.

I had read on someones blog that the store was overwhelming and she wasn't wrong. It is so big and there is so much fabric. I just walked around a little dazed at first. They have a great selection and when the whole store is 35% off it is hard to not go crazy.

I have been trying to figure out if I can make the two and a half hour drive there, shop, and be back home all in the time the kids are in school. Hmm...

13 years

13 years ago I married my best friend. 13 years later I am even more in love with him than the day we married.

I feel so lucky to get to spend our day in such a beautiful place.

This and That

I can't believe how fast this summer is going! Less than a month and the kids are back in school. It is just coming up too fast. We have been out of town a lot this summer and we aren't done yet. We are going to be gone another week later this month. Off to the beach with my sister and her family. Should be fun and relaxing.


We just got back a few days ago from a drive down to San Francisco to see my nephew baptised. It was a long drive but so worth it to see so much of my family. I took some knitting with me for the drive. I was going to take these socks...



but I have just about given up on them. I was so frustrated to find that my second sock is turning out bigger than my first sock. Ugh! This is why I knit all my socks at the same time anymore. Because time has passed and I guess my gauge has changed. I am not sure what to do. I might have to frog the second sock and cast on with smaller needles. I am currently avoiding these socks altogether.


So instead of taking those socks for the drive down south, I took these and started them on the way. I like how they are turning out so far and the yarn is so pretty.

While in San Francisco I got to see my sister, Tina! It was so good to see her. We snuck off for a couple of hours to visit some local quilt shops. It was so fun to browse the stores with her and talk about life, quilting, blogs we both read, and more. She bought me an early birthday present...

Isn't it cute! It is a Sushi Roll with Minny Muu fabrics. She bought one also in a different color. We decided to each make a quilt with the fabrics. It will be fun to see how different or similar they turn out. We are keeping our design a secret until we reveal the quilts to each other.


I have had no time to quilt with being in and out of town so much but I did find the time to buy some fabric. I bought two charm packs from The Quilted B.com . I met the owner, Barb, at my guild's quilt show and we hit it off. She is just awesome. She sent me this cute pin cushion that she made for me as a thank you for ordering. Isn't it cute? She asked me if I was interested in making samples for her store sometime. Umm, yes please!!
