Oh, that binding looks so nice! Love it! And you have made a great tutorial!! I'm gonna save it and try it sometime :o)
What a unique binding! I often avoid piping because it's futzy - but this seems really possible! Thanks for sharing!
That is very very similar to how I learned to do all my quilt binding--I never thought of doing an accent piece though.... will have to try that someday.
What a great tutorial -- I am bookmarking this post to come back to when I have a quilt on which I want to use this method!! Thank you. :-)
OMG! So now I'm desperate to make a runner to try this out! That is so cool.
Great tutorial and I will definitely come back and let you know if and when I try it!
so helpful! Beautiful binding! :)
Thank you. :)
LOVE how this looks! I'm going to save and try the binding technique too. How tricky is it to get the corners just right?
Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. Did I say Fabulous? I can hardly wait to try it!
Fancy trick- great tutorial, thanks Trisha! Your mani looks fab too :-)
Great tutorial--and your mitered corners are so perfect (something I'm working on)! This belongs in a magazine article, you should submit it. :)
Fabulous! Thanks for the detailed photos!
I love it!!!!! I'm totally posting a link to this tute on my blog! did I already say I love it?!
What a great way to do a piped binding. I love it and will definitely use this method on a future quilt. Thanks for the great tutorial and all of the detailed pictures.
Brilliant binding idea that looks great, will definately try it. Great tutorial. Thank you.
nice job!
I've done it!!! Totally user friendly tutorial, great job! Thank you!!!

I love the look of piping. I will definately be trying this.
Loved the piped binding...added that special touch to the quilt. Your tutorial was very easy to follow. I'm looking forward to trying it in the future.
THanks for sharing
Have a God Filled Day

Wow! You make it look so easy! I'm making a runner,so will definitely give this method a try. Will let you know if I succeed! Totally awesome!!! Thanks.

wow, great tutorial Trisha!
and love that green dot binding!!
Oh, I have to try this!! Thank you, I am so excited to given this a try...
Wow! This was so helpful! I am excited to try it. I have been quilting for 5 years and always sew my binding down by hand. I love the way it looks but really I never did it by machine because I didn't know how to do it well and was afraid of "ruining" a quilt with a poorly machine sewn binding. Your tutorial was super! It answered a lot of questions on how to make it look really nice. Thank you!
What a great look, sometimes a little extra color is just right on the edge. I especially like the way it gives you a spot to machine stitch on the top.
This is SO seriously GORGEOUS! I love it! Thank you SO much for this great tute!
This is so cool!!! I found your tutorial via Field Trips in Fiber, and love this idea so much! I blogged about your faux piping over at Craft Gossip Sewing:
http://sewing.craftgossip.com/tutorial-use-faux-piping-for-an-easy-seam-finish/2010/07/10/
--Anne
what a great idea and tute! thanks so much, i will definately have to try it. i found this post via craftgossip via doll quilt swap!
I saw this on CraftGossip - it looks GREAT!!! It's also a nice solution when you don't have quite enough fabric to do a full folded binding - this can help 'stretch' that while giving you the fun accent!!!
I caught this on Craft Gossip and came on over. Thanks for sharing this idea. :-D)
Awesome tutorial and the piping with the binding is a swish idea... I am going to give it a try on something small. Thanks for sharing!
That is FABULOUS! I can't believe how easy it is for how great it looks! I will definitely be trying this on my next quilt. Thanks!
Thank you for your tutorial. I was looking for a different binding technique for a couple of hot pads, and they turned out great.
Brilliant brilliant, a thousand thanks! I'm definitely giving this one a try :)
As many quilts as I have made I can improve my binding. I have a hard time ending. I need to read and reread this post. Thank you.
This is just fabulous! I am going to try it on the quilt I'm finishing today. I found your tutorial on Dale Anne Potter's blog.
Your tutorial is absolutely wonderful! I just finished this on a baby quilt and I love how it looks! Thank you!
This is new for me, I do not know. Thanks for sharing. I'll try to do it.

I don't do quilts, but I think this would be handy anytime you want a piped finish. Great tutorial and great quilt!
Your quilt is fabulous! Thanks for sharing your great tutorial.

Debbie Kelly http://somewhereinstitches.blogspot.com
i am not a quilter, though i hope to one day set aside my love of sewing clothes for my daughters to tackle a quilt...anyways, your quilt caught my eye--it is so beautiful and fun fun fun! i love the fabrics you chose and just wanted to say it is lovely!
Thanks for this tutorial. I will be trying this asap! Awesome idea!!
I'm excited to try this techinque! Can you tell me more about how the back looks? Should the stitches line up with the seam or will you have stitches running along side of the entire binding on the back? (hope that made sense) Thanks!
That is a beautiful quilt and your tutorial is just wonderful! I love the look and you explained it beautifully. Thanks!!
I can't wait to try this! Thank you for taking the time to put this tutorial together :)
A lady who cut fabric for me at Hancock's Fabric tried to explain this to me, but by the time I got home I had forgotten, so I lost my nerve to try it. Now, I have a beautifully detailed and illustrated lesson on how to do it. Thanks so much! I found this because someone posted it on Stashbuster.com
Oh. My.Goodness. That was wonderful. I can't wait to try that. Thanks so much!
I am just finishing off a baby quilt and am going to try this binding. Great job! The photos were nice and clear and explained the method very well. thank you!
Great idea when you don't want to fuss with a piping, thanks for posting!
I love piped binding- I have tuts on my blog for a couple of different machined bindings & I will add this technique to my repertoire!
I love this faux-biding border ! Thanks for sharing this top idea !
Oh man, that is really cool. I have to add it to my to-do list as well.
I'd like to share a link to this tutorial on sewwhattoday.blogspot.com on September 17!
FABULOUS tutorial!! Loved it and will definitely use it in the future!!
I just finished my first quilt using your binding method. I love it!!! I'm a relatively new quilter/ sewer (is that a word?) and I have exactly zero hand sewing skills. I've been doing less than fabulous machine binding, but this is for sure my new go to method. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
I've used this method for binding my quilts for years and never could understand why people have trouble with theirs. Your piping trick is a wonderful addition that I look forward to using! Thanks for all the work involved in making such an explicit and well-thought-out tutorial. Much appreciated!
I love both the piping and quilt. Any way we can get a tutorial or the quilt itself or where I can I find directions/pattern?
thank you so much for this GREAT tutorial, clever idea. I'll give it a try soon, for shure
greetings from Germany Brigitte
this tutorial really helps for a beginner like me.. thank you so much
Thanks for that tutorial -- I am def. going to try this on my next WIP!
Quick question -- I love your quilting, the stitch length looks beautiful. Mind sharing what your setting is, and what thread you are using?
Thx!!
This was shared on quilt group and it is just amazing! Is there a PRINTER friendly version I can hang on my sewing room wall???
That is so awesome....thanks so much!!!
Thank you so much....I found the link over on Dotty's site....great idea.
Love this tutorial!!! Can't wait to try it. Thanks for posting.
I used your tutorial this week and have posted about it here:
http://patchandi.blogspot.com/2010/11/my-creative-space-aka-fancy-shmancy.html
Thanks for a great tutorial.
Andi :-)
This is awesome! I've never done my binding all by machine but this seems to really be great in that you have an automatic guide to sew down b/c of the faux pipping! I must try this!
Thanks so much for your tutorial - such a classy look. I'll have to try it sometime soon.
I was wondering about the blocks on your blog header. What are they called? I'd love to try them sometime!
ltenhage@gmail.com
Love this idea for faux piping! I have used this method when I would make ruffles for curtains or pillows making them look like there are two ruffles. Smart smart!
Great tutorial. So - so easy. A much easier way to the same finish than a workshop I recently did. Thanks for sharing.
Love it!
Wow, thanks for the tutorial. Great looking binding!
I just found this tutorial via CluckCluckSew, and it is LOVELY! I cannot wait to try this!!! Thank you :)
How lovely! and ingenious. Great tut, thanks!
Allison from SeamedUP.com
thank you for your tutorial, I love the way you made this binding.
This sounds really neat--thank you! I intend to try it soon.
This is a great tutorial. So easy to follow and such an easy and quick way to achieve this look. I did a workshop on the same look but it was so much harder and I would say the finished binding wasn't near as fine as yours. Thankyou. You will see the finished quilt when I go to my daughters next as she will send a photo to you.
Keep up the good work. Thanks again.
I'm here to ditto the question in post #44... what does the back look like up close? In some places my seem landed on the binding and looks like patootie...and other places, it landed just a ways off the binding - not sure what it's supposed to look like. I'm debating ripping the whole thing out and trying again. (Thank goodness it's only doll quilt size)...but it'd be helpful to know up close what my end product should sort of look like.
Thanks! Other than that, everything in this tutorial was easy to follow!

A great tutorial - and a very clever way of doing it. Will have to try. Thank you so much for sharing!
This is brilliant! Definitely a keeper. I'll be trying this on my next quilt. It looks so much nicer than my regular machine binding.
Thank you for this great tutorial! I would like to put a link on my blog if that`s ok.
Thanks so much for posting this tutorial. I used it on a quilt I made for my mom for Christmas. It turned out fabulous.
http://www.fromthebluechair.com/2010/11/12-days-of-christmas-quilt.html
I love this tutorial!
And I just saw that you're in Seattle! My family is relocating there, as soon as we sell our house in central IL. Hubby has been out there since June for work.
Small world! :)
What a great tutorial!! I have never seen this method - but can't wait to try it. Thanks!
LOVE the nails!!!
That is great! I've seen this tute before and am so glad for the reminder! I have taken some notes and will be practicing soon! Not a new quilter, but still a novice! Thank You for taking the time to teach!
I've never seen this method before and I can't wait to try it! I have a throw that I'm quilting for my husband and should finish today, I haven't made the binding yet so this is timely!
Thanks!
Penny
This is a fantastic tutorial and I am totally bookmarking it! And I am so amazed at how beautiful your corners came out! Even the accent color part of the binding is mitered just perfectly!
This looks awesome! I am going to give it a try tonight :-) thanks so much for the awesome tutorial!
Fabulous tutorial!!!Thank you, gracias, merci !!!!!
I love it!!!!!!
BNC
WOW! what a great way to create piping. I can't wait to try it and wow my frineds at our February retreat!
I would love to try this but sure hope you are still answering questions about it first.
(a) If you offset the two colors before you sew them together by what appears to be 1/4" and then them 1/4" from the edge (at least this is what pic looks like) how are you possibly catching the bottom fabric?
(b) I too would like to see pics of the back. Is it fairly easy to line up the two seams (front and back)?
this is the wrong place for me to ask, but I dont know how else to contact you. the header on your site, has a gorgeous block...what is that called and how do I do it? thanks carol c aka kingcooper0001@aol.com
What a great tutorial! Thanks! You made that binding look so nice and neat and straight and even. That takes talent!

This is definitely something I want to try! You make it look so easy and your instruction is clear...I'm making a baby quilt for a gift...this will be a very nice touch to add to my simple beginner quilt...
Excellent tutorial. This definitely goes into my list of favorites. Thank you for sharing.
SewCalGal
www.sewcalgal.blogspot.com
Came over from Sew Cal Gal's blog. This is great! Thank you so much - way less work than using a separate binding!
Wow. Love the binding. I may have to make something just to use this technique. I followed the link on SewCalGal's blog to get here.
This is great. I am making a little baby quilt for a friend and I want to try this out on hers. Great, easy tutorial. I will link to your tutorial!!
Can't wait to try this - what a great idea!
what a great tutorial! Your piped binding makes a great finishing touch to the quilt. I've never seen it before - and now after seeing your photos I think I can do it! :)
Thanks for sharing! Love from Texas! ~bonnie
Really neat method! I can't wait to try it.
Patch Andi told me about your tutorial when I asked about it when viewing her current post.
This is the best ! ! !
I am going to give this a try.
Hugs,
Gerry
This is wonderful! Thank you!
I am a beginning quilter, age 79. I can follow this tutorial very well, and will print it off. I will practice on hot pads and place mats to start.
Thank you. Carolyn
Tonight I am using your method of binding for the second time. I love it! I am having trouble making my corners--the piping is not meeting to make a right angle. What am I doing wrong?
I love this tutorial and binding technic. I have been using it for months now. This blog is marked as a favorite on my computer. Thank you TLC.
Thank you for documenting your steps to doing this binding. I especially like that you showed what to to on the right side at the end when you fold the corners back. I'm thinking my next attempt at binding will turn out better than my last one!
That was a great tutorial and a fabulous end result! Thank you very much! I found you through Stumble Upon.
I share your tutorial with everyone who makes a comment about the difficulties or non-creativeness of binding. It's so easy to follow! Thank you so much! You've made lots of sewers/quilters happy!
I followed your link from Shared Creativity. What a great binding method. I'm going to try this on my next quilt.
I will be trying this tomorrow as soon as I get back from the LQS. Neeed to finish a baby quilt by Friday.
great tutorial. sure will give this one a try this afternoon.
Thanks for the tutorial! I can't wait to try this. I love that the whole thing is machine stitched down too.
I 'Pinned' it to my tutorial board on Pinterest. (With credit and linked to you!) It's my way of bookmarking and sharing. Hope that's ok, but if it's not, let me know and I'll take it down!
Thanks for the great tutorial. I used this at quilt camp last week to get 5 things bound (3 baby quilts and 2 wall hangings) and had to give about 2 dozen impromptu lessons on the technique. Everyone loved how easy it was to bind their quilts using this method.
That was a great tutorial! Thank you for sharing. The piping looks great!
Thanks for sharing your tutorial. I have posted about it on my Freebies blog too...Khris
great tutorial...very clear instructions! (and great nails too!!)
I love the look of this, and will have to try it out. Do you take care when sewing the front piping down where your stitches are on the back. I often find that I kind of wander a bit on and off the binding edge on the back.
Thank you for this great tutorial. For the first time a was able to make a "good looking" binding.
Kerstin
Obrigada pelo tutorial para alguém que está começando como eu isso é muito importante.bjsss
Elisia Barros
Brilliant tutorial, I use this method all the time now and I love it, Thank you.
This is such an amazing idea! I have never seen this and it would have taken me "the long way" to figure it out! Thanks for the tutorial!
Wow, thanks to someone pinning this on Pinterest, I just discovered your post. Can't wait to try it. Thanks so much for the great tutorial.
This is great! Thanks for posting it. I have a quilt in progress with it, and just shared this page on my Facebook for Nutmeg Quilts. I hope you don't mind.....:)
I just posted on my blog and on Facebook about your technique for faux piped binding. Thank you so much for this! I just love my little thirties quilt!
Great tutorial, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing this! I need to quilt again! Can you tell me the name of the technique or pattern in your blog header picture? cjdempsey9 at msn dot com
Did you do your quilting first, before you put in the faux binding, or afterwards? I did mine a little wider than yours and haven't yet done the quilting as it really isn't the binding, it is the border, if you get what I mean. So I will have to quilt it after I add the border.
I just wrote a blog post with a link to you, about this technique. I used it to finish a 30's round robin wall quilt. I am thrilled with the results! Thank you so much!
I just posted about your technique! I used it to finish a Round Robin wall quilt. I am thrilled with the results. Thank you!
brilliant, well done tutorial with good pictures and details. thanks so much for sharing your technique!
Wonderful tutorial. I hope to try binding this way soon. Thanks.
Thank you! This is so great. I'd seen a similiar method before but forgot the details. I'm saving this so I can refer to it when I need a refresher!
Someone from the Treadle On list just pointed us to this post. I've done piped binding using a couple of other methods. Next time, I'll use your method. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for the great tutorial. Just found it on facebook.
This tutorial is AWESOME!! Your quilt is amazing. I wonder if you would take the time and email me with your sewing stitch. It is so pretty. Is it a 3? I have an Bernina too. I love this tutorial and I will start following you. Thank you so much. Judy jlblvn@gmail.com
Definitely, what a magnificent website and informative posts, I definitely will bookmark your blog.Have an awsome day!

What a great lesson for all quilters.
I shall try this one very soon.
Love it, and thanks for sharing.
Hi!
Could you please tell me where I can obtain the pattern of the quilt block shown at the top of your home page? It's the quilt block that the yarn and knitting needles are laying on.
Your tutorial are great. I especially love your tutorial on the faux piped binding and used it on a quilt. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
i LOVE this quilt!! thanks for the fun tutorial. i'll try that on my next quilt. oh, and i also LOVE the fabric!!
i LOVE this quilt!! thanks for the fun tutorial. i'll try that on my next quilt. oh, and i also LOVE the fabric!!
I love this tutorial! I was wondering where you got the big green polka dot fabric that you used for the Faux Piped Binding. I was also wondering if you followed a pattern for the actual quilt and if so, where I could find that pattern.
My mother and I are trying to make two quilts for my two girls and we would love it to look like the one in this picture! I love it:).
Thanks so much,
Kristin

This is a great tutorial!! I hope you do not mind if I refer to it in my blog? I love piping and I will be trying this soon.
Thanks!!
Also, I love your modern look/colours etc., too!
Marilyn
Your tutorial was great. Can't wait to try this on my next project. I pinned this on Pinterest with your link.
Thank you for the tutorial! I saw it on pinterest last week in the midst of making my first real quilt for my baby girl due in June. I just finished the binding tonight - it's not perfect, but I'm really pleased with it. Thank you!
Awesome totally love it thank you so much clk
A little late to the party, but love this technique. I learned a similar binding from Ricky Timms, but it was more involved and time consuming. This is amazing. Can I share it with my guild? They say the t-shirt quilt I finished using this binding and want me to teach it at our learning night.
I hope they are paying you well for it! Magazines have budgets for content, so ask for more than they originally offer and don't give your intellectual property away for free.
I am so sad I missed the tutorial!! I was so excited to try it. ;( Anywhere else a similar tutorial is posted???
AHHH! I pinned your tutorial a couple months ago, and now my baby quilt just got done at the machine quilters. Time to bind - baby is due in 4 weeks. But now it's gone! Is there anyway I can get a copy somehow??? mollie AT B Y U . N E T Pretty pretty please?
Booo, I just found this from pinterest, but there is no tutorial, just a picture...sad:( I was really looking forward to learning a different binding technique.
I missed the tutorial but love the look of the binding. Please post the name of the magazine.
About to cry! I saw this a couple of weeks ago, just got paid and bought the material to bind my daughters birthday quilt, and now I have the material (two colors) and no instructions! I have no clue what to do! HELP ME PLEASE!!!!
I'm not surprised a magazine snapped up your tutorial, it was quite something. I have send hundreds of folks over to look at it (maybe not really hundreds but certainly A LOT) I use it on everything now.. Thank You so much for 'inventing it'
Trisha, I mentioned my Table Runner on which I used your Faux Piping Tutorial. I found the tutorial easy to follow, and it just made my runner fabric stand out from the border. I have attached a photo of it on my blog if you would like to see it.
Elaine
OH NO!!! I was planning on using your piped binding method on the baby quilt I was making and now that the top is done, I came back to your tutorial today to find that it's gone. I guess several people are having this same problem. If there is anyway to also get quick instructions as the baby is do very soon, I'd be much appreciative! crystal_finney AT hotmail dot com
Also, congratulations on being picked for a magazine! It really is a great tutorial and a fabulous method.
I'm in the same boat! I knew I should have printed it out when I saw it but am trying to cut down my paper use.
I need the sizes to cut my fabric and complete my quilt. I hope the magazine is coming out soon.
Judie
And another one missing that tutorial... *sigh*
I always shared your website with quilters having problems with binding. Your tutorial has made many converts!!! Congrats on your recognition!!!
I would LOVE to get the tutorial on binding, missed it like several others. Please and Thank You!
Missed the covetous tutorial as well! Where can I get this? ...pretty please?
Sad I missed this :(
Would love to check this out in the magazine! Are you able to share details on which magazine and which issue yet?
Would love to know when this tutorial will be printed in the Magazine. Can you give any more detail?
Love your binding, has the magazine published your tutorial? Your sewing is beautiful.
Please share which magazine we can find this in!!!
Please share what magazine we can find this tutorial in!!!
What magazine and what issue!
Any chance of getting information on your faux piped binding? Has the article been published? Would love to make this binding! Thanks so much.
That is wonderful for you! I used your binding tutorial to complete a quilt earlier this year and LOVED how it looked, so I bookmarked it. I'm not ready to bind another one and came to your blog to use it again and discovered your wonderful news (oh, how I wish I had written down the instructions as I need to do the binding now).
I remember it was sewing 2 strips together and one was wider than the other and you sewed from the back and stitched to the front, but I don't recall the width sizes.
Can you share when this will be published and which magazine??? If it is soon I'll wait to finish my quilt
thank you so much
happy nice day
I cannot find the tutorial! Where is it?
