My Mother's Day

I think Mother's Day might be my new favorite holiday! My family makes it a weekend celebration and I eat it up. Literally! My kids and husband plan a fun menu and do all the cooking. It is a nice break to not be allowed in the kitchen.

They also spoil me with their love, attention, and time. Saturday we went to the kids' school and played out on the field. We played
bocce ball, croquet, and catch with a baseball and mitts. Then we went to our community center and played pool (my favorite!), and then went geocaching. I love spending time as a family. That night we had a games marathon where we all wrote games we wanted to play on a scrap of paper that went into a hat. I got to draw the pieces of paper out and we would play whatever the paper said. It was lots of fun.

Sunday I was treated to a delicious breakfast and then cards and gifts. My son made this cute clay heart for me at school. I love these homemade gifts.

He also gave me the cutest little homemade coupons for me to cash in. They were doing dishes, going for a walk with me, and going grocery shopping. I laughed out loud at that last one. I think he might need my help on that one. And he wrapped up a few coins for me, so cute!

My daughter put her jewelry skills to work and made me this beautiful bookmark. And she wrote me a lovely card. She told me this past week that she can't wait to be a mom and that she has learned how to be a good mom from me. Awww, so sweet! (I'm glad she feels that way even though often I feel like have a lot to improve on)

At one of the "meetings" my husband and kids were having leading up to Mother's Day, my husband asked them what they think I would want as a gift. They both said definitely this...

... and that's what I got!! I was so excited and surprised that my kids knew about them! I have been wanting these beautiful interchangeable needles for a while now. They will make my sweater and lace knitting so enjoyable.

I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend as well. I feel so blessed that I have the opportunity to be a mother. It is a huge responsibility, but I would never want it any other way.

I hope you all had a nice Easter Sunday. Ours was very nice. My parents are visiting from California. They came to see my sisters and I, especially my sister who just had a baby. We all went to my sister's church ward for the blessing of her baby. Then we all drove north to my other sister's house to hang out and then have Easter dinner. The only downside to the whole day was that it poured rain. So Easter egg hunting happened inside and not much of it. I hope your part of the world was sunny and beautiful.

My daughter looked lovely in the Easter outfit I made for her.

Now I am going to go enjoy a couple days with my parents before they move on to the next sister's house

Happy Thanksgiving!

My house is full of family that flew in for Thanksgiving and my son's baptism. My two other sisters that live nearby have full houses too. I am so excited that everyone's here! We are having Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow with 33 family members. We are totally outnumbered with 18 kids to 15 adults. My generous sister agreed to open her house to everyone. Should be fun and interesting to see how it goes having so many people for Thanksgiving.

Tina is here and brought me a surprise. I had asked her to make me a Christmas cottage block so that she could be my neighbor on my quilt. She really wanted to do the swap but life was crazy for her at the time. I was so excited that she brought me a block. Isn't it so cute!!

In other news, my SSCS packages are on there way to somebody somewhere. I really enjoyed making some homemade gifts for my partner and getting to know her through her blog. I hope she likes everything!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Happy Halloween!

I finished my socks and I love them! They fit so nice and are so warm. I love the colors and I am so glad I got them done in time to wear them for Fall.

Pattern: Basic Sock Recipe (Ravelry link)
Yarn: Koigu
Needles: 2.50 mm, US #1.5

I have been working on my ALQS and DQS5 quilts at the same time. I started my DQS5 quilt because I still wasn't sure what to do for my ALQS partner. She has a list of things she likes so I want to try to keep within her wishes. So here is a sneak peak at my DQS5 quilt so far...

I went shopping and here is the fabric I will be using for the ALQS quilt...

It is going to be a fun Halloween this year. My sister that lives near me and I were going to get together with our families for a little party and trick or treating. And we still are but we got a surprise phone call that my brother (from two states away) is going to be in town on business and is bringing his family to join us! So fun! My other sister that lives about an hour away is going to join us too so she can see my brother while he is here. It is a long way for her family to go trick or treating and we are so glad she is coming. I am glad my sister that lives near me is willing to host a party that just got a whole lot bigger!

Then everyone will be coming to my house on Sunday for my son's 8th birthday. He really wanted everyone to come for dinner. Unfortunately my brother and his family have to fly out before the birthday dinner, but we are excited to have him, his wife (she and I were good friends as teenagers!), and their four kids (one is a baby we haven't seen yet) for as long as we can. It is going to be a fun weekend!!
